🌑 “I Thought I Was Healing — But I Was Just Avoiding My Own Pain”…
There was a period in my life
when I truly believed I was healing.
I was keeping myself busy,
surrounding myself with noise,
filling my days with anything and everything
that could keep my mind from touching the things
I didn’t want to feel.
I wasn’t crying anymore.
I wasn’t thinking about the hurt.
I wasn’t breaking down like before.
So I told myself:
“I’m doing better.”
“I’ve moved on.”
“I’m healing.”
But deep down?
I knew I wasn’t.
I wasn’t healing.
I was numbing.
🎭 I Became a Master at Emotional Distraction
I distracted myself with everything:
✨ scrolling endlessly
✨ binge-watching shows
✨ short-lived friendships
✨ pointless conversations
✨ overworking
✨ staying “busy” just to feel something
✨ late-night thoughts turned off with louder noise
✨ pretending everything was okay
I filled every silent moment
with something that drowned out the emptiness inside.
If there was even a single minute of stillness,
the real feelings would creep in —
and I wasn’t ready to face them.
So I avoided them
with everything I had.
💔 My Heart Was Quiet… But Not Healed
From the outside,
I looked fine.
I posted selfies.
I laughed with people.
I kept moving.
I kept performing.
I kept showing up.
But the truth was:
I had simply pushed the pain
into the corners of myself
where no one could see it.
I wasn’t lighter.
I was just quieter.
I wasn’t okay.
I was just disconnected.
I wasn’t strong.
I was just emotionally shut down.
Healing isn’t silence.
Healing is honesty.
And I wasn’t being honest with myself.
🌙 The Moment Everything Finally Hit Me
It happened one random night —
nothing dramatic,
nothing cinematic —
just a moment where all my distractions
finally stopped working.
The noise I had used to outrun my thoughts
suddenly felt overwhelming.
And the silence I had been avoiding
felt too loud.
That night,
the feelings I had buried
rose up like a tidal wave:
the sadness,
the frustration,
the confusion,
the heartbreak,
the loneliness,
the grief for the version of me
who had been hurting for so long.
And in that moment, I realized:
✨ “I didn’t heal…
I just refused to feel.” ✨
That realization shattered me —
but it also freed me.
🌱 I Finally Let Myself Feel Everything
Healing began
the moment I stopped running.
I sat with my pain
instead of silencing it.
I cried
without apologizing.
I admitted to myself
that I wasn’t okay.
I stopped labeling my emotions
as “too much” or “dramatic.”
I stopped shaming myself
for hurting longer than I expected.
And for the first time,
I let myself be human.
It wasn’t pretty.
It wasn’t peaceful.
It wasn’t quick.
But it was real.
💫 Healing Happened When the Distractions Ended
Once I faced the truth,
everything changed.
✨ I felt lighter
✨ I felt calmer
✨ I felt connected to myself again
✨ I started understanding my patterns
✨ I began choosing better coping habits
✨ I learned to breathe instead of run
✨ I replaced avoidance with awareness
✨ I gave myself permission to rebuild slowly
Healing doesn’t happen
in the noise.
Healing happens
in the quiet courage
of facing what hurts.
And once I did that,
I realized:
I wasn’t broken —
I was buried under distractions.
And underneath it all…
I was still whole.
🌈 If You’re Distracting Yourself Instead of Healing — You’re Not Alone
We all do it.
We all avoid.
We all run.
We all numb.
We all bury.
But healing begins
the moment we stop pretending
we’re okay when we’re hurting.
There is nothing weak
about finally facing your truth.
It’s the bravest thing you’ll ever do.
